On July 5th, the newly-minted Charlotte County Democratic Veterans Caucus (CCDVC) hit the ground running with the election of Caucus officers.
Phil Giorno, the current president of the Democratic Veterans Caucus of Florida (DVCF) attended the meeting to welcome the Charlotte County chapter into the fold, and provide information on the DVCF mission, as well as some of the administrative steps that will need to be completed by the local chapter to gain full recognition as the 9th county-level caucus to join the DVCF.
The Charlotte County chapter, while still in its infancy, hopes to promote veterans issues at the local, state, and national levels by proactively working with local veterans organizations and meeting with political candidates to express concerns and interests.
Sixteen prospective members attended the kick-off meeting, and formally elected the following Caucus officers:
President – Joe Comeaux
Vice President – Vielka Wambold
Treasurer – Nicholas Angiolelli
Secretary – Kimmie Correll
The CCDVC is excited about the prospect of helping our community and assisting local veterans. While the Caucus intends to work arm-in-arm with the Charlotte County Democratic Executive Committee and other local Democratic clubs and organizations, it will be independent of the committee, setting its own goals and agenda. The strong turnout for the kick-off meeting was encouraging, but the group is anxious to expand its membership in order to be able to increase their reach in the community. To become a member of the group, you must simply be a resident of Charlotte County. You need not be a veteran, just have an interest in veterans affairs.
The group will next meet on August 2nd at 3:00 PM at the Charlotte County Democratic Executive Committee offices, located at 3596 Tamiami Trail (Suite 202), in Port Charlotte. Everyone with an interest is welcome to attend!
